Corona—known within its Asian root etymology as Crown Chakra in Meditation, is seen, and experienced through the opening salvo of its Sahasrara. In New York City, the sudden, vigorous, aggressive, succession of bodies—and the media interpretation, while invasive and prevalent, is not fixed. On the flip side, the aqueous, power gradients of this liminal state, and its plural sight uses a thematic approach to confront an inescapable, vicious paradox: in the eyes of both media and virus, the liberation movement of the working class are cast as pariahs—less than, but essential.

My Suminagashi double-marblings on paper are peripatetic in nature within the book anatomy threshold. They are streaks of prayer, vectored as the door, the gate in which they gesture as leitmotifs for the extinguished breath. As the oldest marbling technique, and traditionally used as endpapers in the Book Arts, these effects of pressure gradients on a confined, turbulent wake, demarcate an extracted state, one in which Suminagashi doubles as a passage to ‘enter’, ‘withdraw’, and ‘roam,’ through the interactive currents of a steady flow. Unbound by circumstance, and with freedom to travel.
