Families and communities form to network and penetrate like the Endomycorrhizal Fungi, which makes up the building blocks of life, mimicking nature’s biological intelligence of microbe breakdown, plant sugar exodates, and the relationship between the two. This fungi only grows on living plant roots, and if the soil goes dormant the fungi can sustain for a short period on carbons, but needs living roots to thrive and colonize. The infiltration of fungicides find their way into top soils everywhere, and small amounts over time will burnish living soil systems, becoming acidic and lacking life force. Heavy tilling will also kill these fragile life giving organisms. Cultivating these strands is the ultimate joy of any carbon sequestering steward, and in keeping them around it creates a relationship with the microscopic endos. New gardens and soils need inoculations of mycorrhizal fungi either through collecting IMOs (Indigenous Microorganisms) and or using a cultured product that has multiple species of endos. It is important to follow up every harvest with a cover crop so the fungi has fresh sugars to survive during non growing seasons. Sundanese Sorghum grass can host and feed over 100 different mycorrhizae species, and it easily grows in many different environments. Many other cover crops and weeds will also feed the fungi.
